🏳️‍🌈 Celebrating Pride Month 2025: Progress, Justice, and Community in Los Angeles

Every June, we celebrate Pride Month as a time to honor the resilience, joy, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. In Los Angeles County, this year’s Pride Month is especially meaningful as local leaders and organizations, including Safe Spaces Youth, come together to raise awareness, offer support, and show solidarity.

On June 3, 2025, the Progress Pride Flag was raised proudly above the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration for the third consecutive year. This event marked not only a visual representation of inclusion but a powerful reaffirmation of LA County’s ongoing commitment to LGBTQ+ equity. From Pacoima to Pomona, Baldwin Hills to Bell Gardens, and Long Beach to Lancaster, the flag was seen across County facilities, a vivid symbol of support and visibility.

Under the leadership of the Board of Supervisors, including Supervisors Hahn and Horvath, a motion has been introduced to officially proclaim June 2025 as Pride Month throughout Los Angeles County. Their commitment reflects broader efforts to make LA County a safer, more inclusive space for all—especially for queer and transgender individuals who still face disproportionate barriers to healthcare, housing, and public safety.

In support of these efforts, LA County has initiated vital programs like the LGBTQ+ Community Safety Plan and the County’s first-ever LGBTQ+ Commission. These measures are designed to address the specific challenges LGBTQ+ residents encounter—whether it’s accessing gender-affirming care, navigating social services, or simply feeling safe walking down the street.

At Safe Spaces Youth, we proudly echo LA County’s message of unity and progress. Our mission aligns with the county’s declaration: to uplift LGBTQ+ youth through access to essential resources such as housing, education, and affirming community care. Pride Month is a reminder of why our work matters—and why it must continue year-round.

As we honor the voices of those who paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights, we are also creating space for the new generation of change-makers. Youth need to know they are seen, heard, and valued—and they need safe, inclusive environments where they can thrive. That’s exactly what we’re building, together.

To celebrate Pride Month, LA County Library is hosting a range of LGBTQ+ Pride events. You can view the full schedule by visiting lacountylibrary.org/pride. Whether it’s an educational panel, creative arts program, or community gathering, these events are open to everyone and are designed to foster understanding, celebration, and community strength.
